I Used To Eat That: Applebee's Sampler Platter

Applebee's Appetizer Sampler

2590 Calories
173g fat (54 Saturated, 2.5 trans)
6830mg sodium

Sodium Equivalent: 370 Funyuns (that'd be over four bags, folks)

The Applebee's Appetizer Sampler consists of 4 bacon and cheese quesadilla slices, 4 fried cheese sticks with marinara dipping sauce, spinach and artichoke dip served with chips, and 4 boneless buffalo wings served with celery and ranch dressing.

So here's the deal. We all know that this Sampler Platter would be a lot for one person, and we would share it with another one or two people. If you shared it with two other people, we're looking at 647 calories and 43 g of fat. But here's the worse news, even if you shared it with NINE other people, you'd still be looking at 259 calories and 17.3g of fat per person, and that's just your appetizer.

The most shocking thing about this appetizer is less about the calories, and more about the staggering sodium content. The American Heart Association recommends limiting sodium to less than 2000mg per day - which is approximately one teaspoon. This one dish alone has more than three times that amount. Can you imagine shoving three teaspoons of salt into your mouth? Just imagine it!

Any of these foods alone would be bad enough, but it's definitely safe to say that it's best to avoid this dish that has more than three days worth of sodium and fat, and more than a day's worth of calories. Of course, you could always eat the celery on the plate, and leave the rest...
